Our Physics 4C project consists on building a wind tunnel which will be capable of providing data for wing testing. Such wind tunnel will also serve as a resource for airframe and wing testing by Mt. SAC's SPS Design-Build-Fly group.
The idea of a wind tunnel construction comes from the necessity of having a measuring apparatus on which the DBF group will test different airfoils. The wind tunnels is an extension of a more complex project involving SPS and the DBF competition taking place in Spring.
We will try to build a medium scale wind tunnel which will be big enough to hold a medium sized wing. It will be made from materials that are available to the general public, and testing/data analysis will be studied based upon a set of prototype wings.
We did some research on some previous wind tunnels built by other students and submitted to NASA and from Sciencebuddies.org. We decided that we could take elements from the previous designs and modify them in a way that we will be able to take physical data with the help of force sensors and other laboratory equipment.
